PROJECT 1 : Part A (Still Image Manipulation in PS)
01/10/19 (Week 6)

We are kick-starting our project 1 during this week. I felt really excited and I can't wait to explore the possibility of manipulating different images together. I come prepared with 3 ideas during the consulting session. Mr Jeffrey thinks that it will be more interesting to try the idea of manipulating the image of the China ancient emperor with the China ancient building "Temple of Heaven". I have a second idea which is inspired by the word "Canon". In Korea language, the pronunciation of the word "Canon" is similar to the "dog eye (개 눈 / gae-nun)". To show this idea, I prepared an image of a black dog and a canon camera.

I like both of my idea so I decided to give them a try and chose one to work on as my project 1. Lecturers said that I could start to do some mock-up to see the first attempt and then I have to decide to chose one out. of two as my project 1 as soon as possible to avoid that I am doubling up my task load.

However, the first attempt mock-up of the image failed to deliver the initial idea of the dog eye as the message delivered is more focus on the "dog mouth" comparing to the "dog eye". Although the message is not delivered precisely at the beginning but I really appreciate my failure and I could learn something new from the mistake.

For the second idea, I tried out the image manipulation of the china emperor and the temple of heaven. Below were the materials I search from the internet that I was going to use them for image manipulation.

During the first stage, the replacement of the building on the original hat did not look obvious and the curving shape of the bridge did not fit the curve of the shoulder (Fig 1.8). Mr. Martin suggests me to zoom in and crop the image to allow the visual focus more on the upper part of the body especially the head.

The new China's traditional bridge was edited on the shoulder of the human figure according to the curve of the costume design. Visitors and little lanterns are added as an extra element to the image to boost up the interestingness of the image. Colour matching effect

PROJECT 1 : Part B (Image Animating in AE)
08/10/19 (Week 7)

During this week, Mr. Jeffrey had created an tutorial videos in google classroom about how to create an animated still image by using both Adobe Photoshop and After Effect. Mr, Martin said that we were going to create a simple animation with a subtle movement. I start the practice by creating 3 simple square shapes with different colours. I learned how to create scale, transformation and also rotation effect on each of the shape. The shortcut key in After Effect was different with Photoshop, hence I need to put more effort on learning the new shortcut key to increase my working speed. This warm-up exercise was fun as I could play around with the basic effect which will create a subtle animation effect.

15/10/19 (Week 8)

Before I starting to work with After Effect, I had to clean up the layers in Photoshop to ensure that I could work with layers easier in After Effect. After finishing all the layering work, I imported the psd file into After Effect (Shortcut: Ctrl + I) as composition, the reason to choose composition as this file type will allow me to works with layers (Import as footage will combine all the layers). On the layer option, I ticked "create composition" , and selected  "Editable Layer Styles".

I decided to create an animation effect on the lanterns by making it swinging left and right to create a subtle animation effect. Firstly, I worked with the big lanterns. Same direction was applied on the each group of the lantern to ensure the movement looked consistent. Rotation degree was slightly different for some of the lanterns to create an natural swinging movement and direction. I wanted to create an rotating moving effect for the tented roof but Mr. Martin said that I could only create that effect in 3D mode, He said that the subtle movement for the lantern was sufficient for this project.

After finishing creating the subtle animation moving effect, I create a new composition layer to adjust the frame dimension to 1920 x 1080. At the same time, I set the duration for 25 second to get a longer animation looping timeframe. I duplicated the layers and and arranged them base on the 5 second duration for one time frame.
