LECTURE NOTES

W1 Lec | Module Briefing

During the first online class, our lecturer Mr Razif briefed us about the module outline which included the expected outcome for each of the projects. To ensure students are able to produce a good quality of work at their home, our lecturer recommended us some choices for purchasing the right headphone as well.

 # Lecturer's Key Note:   Paying good attention to the detail of sound is very important and people always tend to neglect the importance of sound in storytelling.

W2 Lec | Sound Fundamentals

Today's class is held in hybrid mode, Mr Razif conducted the first lecture regarding the fundamental theory of sound which is related to certain knowledge of science. The interactive atmosphere in the classroom is good and students get a great chance to visit the recording studio after the tutorial session.

 # Lecturer's Key Note:   All pieces of equipment in the recording room serve their purpose to facilitate better work production. The items hanging on the walls are not just a mere decoration, they function as the sound absorber during the recording session.

W3 Lec | Sound Fundamentals

- sound-shaping exercise using sampling voice-over and exposure

 # Lecturer's Key Note:   Students should explore different sound editing effects in Adobe audition.

πŸ“ŒExercises: Audio Fundamentals

Week 2 | Exercise 1

Before I kick start my first exercise for audio editing using Adobe Audition, I did a revision study based on the given video links by our lecturer to get myself familiar with the course and software. The revision includes the basic understanding of sound theory and audio track editing in Adobe Audition. There were several edited soundtracks were given in the exercise file, and I required to rematch the soundtrack to its original version using the Parametric Equalizer controller in the Rack Effect. The given Below is the final audio editing outcome using.

EQ 2 - Final Editing Outcome:

EQ 3 - Final Editing Outcome:

EQ 4 - Final Editing Outcome:

 # Consultation Note:
  • (General) / (Specific) The final soundtrack is quite near to the original version and it needs a little more adjustment. The rest of the soundtracks editing is just fine.

 # Reflection:  The first exercise was simple and it helps me to do a quick revision of the soundtrack editing technique after a long time without using Adobe Audition. Furthermore, the physical class was ideal for solving my questions regarding software usage as I could communicate and get instant feedback from my lecturer efficiently. The live tour at the recording studio was fresh and it was a great chance to expose myself to a variety of equipment required for professional sound recording work.

Week 3 | Exercise 2

Before I kick start my first exercise for audio editing using Adobe Audition, I did a revision study based on the given video links by our lecturer to get myself familiar with the course and software. The revision includes the basic understanding of sound theory and audio track editing in Adobe Audition. There were several edited soundtracks were given in the exercise file, and I required to rematch the soundtrack to its original version using the Parametric Equalizer controller in the Rack Effect. The given Below is the final audio editing outcome using.

Week 5 | Exercise 3

Today our lecturer taught us about the technique of creating sound panning. Sound panning is a method to change the direction of the sound. To kick start the exercise, I searched and downloaded some copyright-free sounds according to the given picture as a benchmark.
